JOY AT THE MUSLIM DINNER
Tonight I attended a dinner in Springfield, Virginia sponsored by the American Muslim Institution. They help others develop tolerance for Muslims and other religions so people can live in harmony.
I was pleased to be the only Mormon there among some 100 people. So, I sat next to a Muslim gentleman who asked me what Bible our church uses. I told him the King James Version plus the Book of Mormon and some other scriptures. He said he had never read the Book of Mormon and he would like to.
What Happened Next with My Muslim Friend
About two weeks ago someone had me haul away some bags of books from their garage. Inside one of the bags was an older blue copy of the Book of Mormon. So I rescued it and put it in my truck.
Consequently, I told my Muslim friend I happened to have a copy in my truck and I would give it to him. After the dinner I grabbed the copy, wrote him a brief inscription and then gave it to him.
In conclusion, it is simply further evidence that if you have something with you to help someone else learn more about the truth, God will drop someone in your pathway that you can give it to.
Finally, it felt great to give that copy of the Book of Mormon away!
This experience shows the benefits of getting out there and meeting with other people. When the scriptures say to be “…in the world, but not of the world”, it means you have to go out and be in the world. You can’t hide from others by only staying around those of your faith. You learn more by associating with others. It’s hard to help people when you don’t know what’s on their mind. You find out what’s on their minds by associating with them.
You can then help them with what’s most important to them.
